Two short stories by Siobhan Fallon, "The Last Stand" and "Gold Star," show another side of war. A Word for Word Production from Z Space. Directed by Joel Mullennix and by Amy Kossow.
"You Know When the Men Are Gone" provides an intimate look at life on an American military base through the eyes of the families of American soldiers deployed to Iraq. Founded in 1993 by alumnae Susan Harloe and JoAnne Winter, Word for Word Performing Arts Company performs short stories in their entirety, preserving the author's language and honoring his or her literary intent.
Co-sponsored by the English Language and Literature Department. This performance is part of the Presidential Investiture celebration and a fundraiser for a scholarship in memory of Political Science Professor Matthew F. Stolz, in support of the SF State Students First campaign. The fund has been established in his name to reward a working-class scholar who shows excellence in political theory -- in other words, a scholar very much like Stolz himself.
