Queer Yo Mind is a public conference highlighting intellectual scholarship and activism across all disciplines and historical periods. From its inception the Conference has focused on redefining queer in an effort to empower queer communities and engage underrepresented peoples in an intellectual conversation. In 2012, the conference committee refocused its mission on bridging the gaps between community activism, empowerment, and academic scholarship and focused on queer minds and queer embodiment. The effort of the conference is to make visible the complexities and intersections of queer communities and work against the unilateral hetero-/homonormative media construction of a normative queer movement. We launched our new mission statement in the Spring of 2012.
