Mad Veterinarian Puzzles: Grids, Groups, Graphs; Gerbils, Groundhogs, Giraffes?
There is a collection of problems that have come to be known as "Mad Veterinarian Puzzles", for reasons which will soon become obvious. As a warm-⿐up, we will look at some of the "usual" questions that are asked in this context Then we will ask some new types of questions. The goal is to see just how much structure is contained in these ideas, and really how beautiful these ideas can be! If we have some time at the end, we will mention how these puzzles arise in some current mathematical research areas.
In this program, just for teachers, SFMC is sponsoring monthly real-food dinners with a special Math Circle speaker. Come to the meeting, eat delicious food, and investigate the beautiful world of mathematics with other teachers! The March Teachers' Circle will be led by Gene Abrams of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Department of Mathematics. We look forward to seeing you in March to enjoy Gene's presentation!
